Week 2024-41

zelda

Back from an entire week away from work, I spent most of Monday and Tuesday catching up on emails, Slack messages, and sync meetings. However, it was a very productive week. The technical backlog is now refined and prioritized, and I attended a workshop for a new feature we’ll be implementing, and even found time to refactor some code and write a few unit tests.

Outside work, it was a week with several endings. I finished Zelda’s new game and watched the season finales of Slow Horses and Bad Monkey.

After finishing The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you learn how many echoes are still missing. To avoid spoilers, I won't reveal how many there are or who tells Zelda about them. However, this information is very useful for those who like to collect every single item and complete every task in the game. You also find out how many heart pieces and might crystals are still out there.

Before finishing the game, I already had all the might crystals, beverages, clothing pieces, and accessories—including the clothing pieces from amiibos—but after completing it, I learned I was missing six heart pieces and four echoes.

It took me a few extra hours to collect everything, but now it’s officially complete. Goodbye, Zelda. I hope to see you again in the future, as this game was a lot of fun.

As for the TV shows, I really liked this season of Slow Horses. I’ve probably mentioned this in previous Week Notes, but for me, this season ranks right up there with the first one. I also enjoyed Bad Monkey a lot and would love to see a second season.

I spent some time reviewing my notes on Drafts and Bear and realized I don’t have much stored in these apps. I also don’t use Drafts actions enough to justify keeping it. Most of what I need can be done with the Share Sheet or Shortcuts on macOS and iOS. For this reason, I migrated my notes to Apple’s Notes app and configured my iPhone’s Action Button to create a Quick Note in Notes. When I need Markdown, I can always rely on iA Writer, as it's the best app for that anyway.

Speaking of dropping apps, I’m also considering canceling my Micro.blog subscription which renews in November (and therefore my microblog). I currently have the Premium Plan, which costs $100 per year, but since I moved to Bear Blog (for which I have the Lifetime Plan), I barely use Micro.blog. Most of the people I follow there, I also follow on Mastodon. After migrating to Bear Blog, I’ve been interacting much more with people on Mastodon, and it’s working quite well.

Before making a final decision, though, I need to check if it's possible to create a test blog with Micro.blog’s free account, as I have an Obsidian plugin, Micro.publish, which has thousands of users. I’ve promised some features I still need to find time to work on (yes, image uploads). But the truth is, $100 per year for something I’m not using is just too much.
