Week 2024-40

We had a public holiday in Germany this week, Tag der Deutschen Einheit, which translates to German Unity Day. It celebrates the German reunification in 1990. I used some of my vacation days to take the rest of the week off so we could enjoy it.

It was a relaxing week, including a day at the Zoo and another at the Legoland Discovery Center.

At the Zoo, tinyScientist saw an elephant doing its business and asked the elephant to do it again: “Elephant more pee, poop more elephant. More pee, poop.” We laughed for hours. I wish we had the Nintendo Switch’s 30-second save feature in real life for moments like this.

Legoland Discovery Center was equally fun. scientist described the experience as “imagine you release a wild animal back into nature.” That was tinyScientist there. He loved the place so much, playing with bricks, LEGO cars, watching the trains, and running from one activity to another. It’s always great to see him that happy.

One of the activities at Legoland was creating stop-motion videos of monsters. They have iPads attached to the tables, which can be used to take pictures and export the video at the end (and share via AirDrop and other methods). I was curious if it was a Legoland solution built in-house or an app from the store. Turns out it’s an app from the store, Stop Motion Studio, which I downloaded as soon as I found it. Now we can make stop-motion videos at home!

Later in the week, we bought a LEGO Duplo train set for tinyScientist, but it was supposed to be a Christmas gift. He found it, because it wasn’t well hidden—my fault here—and went crazy. So now there’s a train set in the middle of our living room.

The rest of the week was spent playing with LEGO and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, recharging for a new week of work.
