Otávio’s blog

Subscriptions in December 2023

I recently added a page to things blog featuring the list of subscriptions I currently pay for. However, like all pages in a Digital Garden, it is constantly evolving, receiving frequent updates to reflect new information.

Therefore, I decided to replicate its content in the form of a blog post. This way, a year from now, I can revisit this post and reflect on the decisions I've made.

Streaming

We canceled Netflix during the pandemic and have not returned since. There might be a TV show or two that we are missing, but given the limited time we have, the abundance of content available is already overwhelming.

Podcasts

However, I might replace Dithering with something else next time. Also, I would subscribe to 99% Invisible if that were an option. 99% Invisible and Twenty Thousand Hertz are my all-time favorite shows, and I’m glad I can support Twenty Thousand Hertz+ in some way.

Services

Must-Have

These are indispensable to me.

Blog/Social

These are the best online communities one could hope for.

Reading

I’ve experimented with numerous reading apps and read-later services, only to return to Feedbin and Instapaper in the end. I am not planning to change this setup anytime soon.

The Local Library is listed here because I can use Libby (and some other reading apps) with my subscription.

Fun to Have

Apps

I’ve tried various Mastodon clients and always end up coming back to Ivory. It may not have all the features of some other clients, but it is the most polished and performant among them.
